Poker software firm Tribeca Tables has signed a deal with technology firm Phantom Fiber to develop a mobile poker solution.
Tribeca, which provides poker software for sportsbooks Blue Sq and Victor Chandler among others, said it had big hopes for the new product.
“We foresee rapid growth in 2006 for the mobile poker sector,” Steve Cook, spokesman for Tribeca Tables, said.
Swedish poker operator Ongame launched the first Java-based mobile poker game earlier this year and received acres of press coverage.
But some industry experts said mobile poker was simply a marketing gimmick, pointing out the game suffered from technical shortcomings.
“Companies talking about mobile poker are only raising expectations beyond technical delivery,” Charles Palmer, founder of mobile technology firm Mfuse, said.
But the move by a second software firm into the mobile poker sector will be a boost to firm’s looking for big growth from the merging mobile market.
And Jeff Halloran, President and CEO for Phantom Fiber said he was confident his firm could deliver.
“Phantom Fiber’s Advanced Wireless Platform was originally built around Poker to demonstrate the proven speed, graphics and stability of our wireless solution,” Halloran said.
