Sportingbet has hit back at a UK newspaper’s allegations it withheld information related to a US lawsuit from investors.
The Daily Mail reported US software firm Rotoplay was suing Sportingbet over allegations the firm copied its sports lottery games.
Korey Gardner, chief executive of Rotoplay, was quoted as saying it was a potentially “multi-million dollar” case.
And the Daily Mail said the firm could be in trouble as the failure to disclose the details was in contravention of UK stock exchange rules.
But Nigel Payne, chief executive of Sportingbet, hit back at the claims calling them “scandalous”.
“If you assume everything in the article is true I wouldn’t have to announce anything unless the lawsuit was likely to be worth over US$8m.
“A licence to buy the Rotoplay product is US$60,000 a year over a three-year period so you can draw you own conclusions.”
“We haven’t copied its software and we haven’t done anything wrong, however, even if we had then any damages would not be material to our profits.”
