Alderney’s Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) is considering dropping its restrictions on sportsbook operators accepting US bets.
Operators based in Alderney are currently permitted to accept casino and poker bets from the US, but until now sports bets have been banned.
But Andre Wilsenach, chief executive of the AGCC, said recent events have caused the domicile’s commission to reconsider its position.
“We may have to revisit the way we treat sports betting in Alderney,” Wilsenach said at the iGGBA annual general meeting late last month.
Alderney has no active sports betting licences at the moment, but it is home to the casino operations of several of the UK’s largest sportsbooks.
The move is believed to be a direct response to the UK government recent decision to allow operators based in the UK to accept bets from US citizens.
But it is also thought to be a direct response to the decision by the Isle of Man to accept US bets for its casino and poker sites for the first time.
The Isle of Man prohibits US sports bets, but a well-placed source said any move by Alderney could prompt it to overturn the ban.
