Odessa American
Some Odessa Super Bowl fans have already been thrown for a loss.
Agents of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission raided an Odessa
restaurant Thursday and seized a football pot with bets on the Super
Bowl. TABC Lt. Dyer Lightfoot said the bets were seized at The
Market Grill & Bar, 1806 E. Seventh St.
“There were some football boards that were being used on a licensed
premises over there,” he said.
Lightfoot said it’s illegal to have gambling or games of chance
where alcohol is being sold.
“It doesn’t matter whether it’s a $1 board, a $5 board or a $100
board, you can’t have a football board on an alcohol-licensed
premises,” he said. “Any kind of gambling or game of chance where
there’s an alcoholic beverage license or permit is against the law.”
TABC officers seized the boards, but no one was cited. Lightfoot
said The Market Grill & Bar could face an alcohol license suspension
or a fine.
“Basically, there’re several charges in our code,” Lightfoot said.
