Publicly listed shell firm Sportswinbet has revealed plans for what looks like an Asian-focused sportsbook based in Alderney.
The firm listed earlier this year with the intention to “invest in, acquire, develop or agglomerate business or companies in the online gaming sector”.
It raised £3m (US$5.3m) with a market capitalisation of £28.5m, and has already established an egaming subsidiary and applied for an electronic betting centre licence in Alderney.
The firm has also signed a hosting deal with Cable and Wireless, and said hardware and software had been acquired with which to form the basis of an online sportsbook.
No details have been released over the format of the new sportsbook, but the firm said it had opened talks with potential partners in Asia.
“Discussions have been initiated with a number of parties in the Far East as to agglomeration opportunities,” a company statement said.
It would be the second Asian-focused sportsbook to locate in Alderney.
Asian-owned bookmaker SAMVO, which plans to operate an international football and basketball site, has an electronic betting licence in Alderney.
It signed a deal with software firm Orbis in November 2004 to develop the sportsbook system.
