Sweden’s horse racing monopoly AB Trav och Galopp (ATG) has launched a lawsuit against Malta-based Unibet for an amount nearing $36 million, reports the Swedish news publication Travnet. The suit results from allegations that Unibet has been illegally using information from ATG’s database without permission for nearly seven years, despite warnings from ATG several years back to discontinue its actions.
The dollar amount of the lawsuit represents approximately 10 percent of the total money Unibet has made since it began using the ATG database. The Swedish firm alleges that it has spent over $30M developing the database, and without it Unibet would not have been able to provide betting on horse racing without it.
