Austrian bookmaker Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG has signed an agreement to become the main sponsor of Spanish soccer club Real Madrid.
According to the team website, the official presentation took place on June 11 at the club’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
This announcement came after Bwin said during the fall that it would cut its marketing by half due to the legal restrictions created by the law signed in the U.S. aimed at shutting down Internet gambling. The chance to sponsor the club however, proved too lucrative. Real Madrid is the world’s largest soccer club by revenue and features world stars like Ruud van Nistelrooy, Brazil’s Robinho and until recently David Bekham. The club is set to hoist its first trophy in the past four years.
