Minister of Finance Dr. Errol Cort is confident that the WTO final ruling, which will be made public tomorrow, will still be in favour of Antigua & Barbuda.
In an interview with the SUN yesterday, Dr. Cort said he had not received a "sneak preview" of what the ruling might be, but still remained "extremely hopeful" of a favourable final ruling.
The minister said he would receive the final word, tomorrow morning, on the outcome of the appeal.
In late February, Cort led a delegation to Geneva, Switzerland for the two-day hearing of the US appeal against the Internet gaming ruling by the WTO appellate body. After the hearing, it was announced that there would be a 45-day wait for the final ruling, which would either tighten the locks on the US Internet gaming market or force it to pry open its doors.
Earlier in March, the minister had said he was "cautiously optimistic" considering the highly legalistic arguments that were put forward during the appeal. He had also said the case was not as straight forward as initially felt, where original moralistic arguments were left on the backburner and replaced by interpretations of WTO articles.
